Organizational Relationship
or Line of Authority:
Directly responsible to the Principal and/or his/her designee in all matters pertaining to the building. Responsible to the Supervisor of Security and the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for all other matters.
Statement of Duties:
- Enforce the visitor management procedures by enforcing proper identification; issuance of the HPS visitor badge and direct visitors, guests, or non-students to proper offices.
- Maintains the visitor log sign in sheets for incoming and outgoing guests.
- Communicates directions to unauthorized persons to leave the premises if they have no legitimate reason to be on school property.
- Reports any discipline infractions of school rules, unauthorized visitors, and acts of vandalism to the Principal, Assistant Principals and/or Supervisor of Security immediately.
- Deters student loitering in the hallways to ensure a smooth traffic flow.
- Monitors the electronic security camera activity and communicates any questionable activity via the radio system.
- Checks assigned area of the building (inside and outside at the beginning, throughout and end of each day) and school grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, and other unlawful acts.
- Professional operation of two-way radio devices with other security specialists, school resource officer and administrators.
- Observes student behavior in order to prevent any altercations or disorder.
- Render assistance within the school building whenever the situation arises.
- Help direct teacher, visitor, parent, and student traffic flow throughout the school day and during loading and unloading buses.
- Supervise student activity on school grounds and as scheduled by administration in the building and protect school property.
- Ability to interpret and enforce Haverhill Public School policies and procedures.
- Participates in security unit meetings and in-service training.
- Wide knowledge of teenage behaviors, gang activities and at risk behaviors, preferred.
- Displays strong, positive communication and interaction skills both oral and written when dealing with the public, students and staff.
- Displays ethical and professional behavior in communicating and working with staff, students and community members.
- Exercises considerable discretion in the protection and release of confidential information and in the interpretation and administration of policies and procedures.
- Maintain hours set by the school administration. Availability to work additional hours if needed.
- Must attend work regularly and is punctual reporting to work and returning from scheduled breaks.
- Perform all other general duties as indicated by the directives of the Principal, Supervisor of Security and the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
Qualifications:
- High School graduate with some post high school education preferred.
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing duties.
- Sitting and/or driving for long periods of time, standing and/or walking for long periods of time, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, walking several hours per day in hallways and outside. Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
- Must be honest, sincere, and scrupulous in his/her relationship with school personnel, students, community members, Supervisor of Security, School Resource Officer and in accomplishing his/her work.
- Ability to communicate with young people, including the ability to be able to set limits without being antagonistic or abrasive.
- Basic First Aid knowledge and CPR Certified
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
