Statement of Duties:
- Promote by example loyalty, leadership, dedication, integrity, physical fitness, sportsmanship, cooperation and personal responsibility.
- Focus on building a strong culture aligned with core values for the lacrosse program in the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Conference.
- Implements codes of conduct for coaches, players, and parents of the HHS lacrosse team.
- Ability to work the expected hours to include arriving prior to the student athlete arrival and departure times.
- Recruits, interviews, recommends to the Athletic Director the Assistant Coaches for all levels of the lacrosse program.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of game and competition rules and has the ability to educate all coaches and student-athletes to share in that understanding, including the rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
- Develops appropriate training programs and practice sessions.
- Ensure the proper cleaning, storage and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms are adhered to in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
- Travels with student-athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
- Demonstrates knowledge of strategies and rules of lacrosse.
- Adheres to all financial policies of the district in the regards to the collection, disbursement of money, expenses and receipts.
- Works with the athletic trainer(s) and completes injury reports for any student injured within 24 hours even if the athlete does not see a physician.
- Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork and required team and individual statistics in a specified time and manner.
- Works with the Athletic Department staff to ensure the proper forms including physical, attendance, parent consent and medical information is collected prior to the start of the season.
- Enforces the policies and procedures of the Haverhill School Committee and the Haverhill High School Student Handbook.
- Supervises appropriate behavior of students from arrival to departure, both on and off the field, including the locker room, buses, practices, and at home and away games.
- Maintains a safe environment and facilities for all student athletes at all times.
- Attends the annual HHS Head Coach meeting.
- Attends the annual HHS all Coaches meeting.
- Reviews the HHS Coaches Handbook annually.
- Reviews and signs the Massachusetts Anti-Hazing Law Form annually.
- Demonstrated commitment to protect student athletes from inappropriate conduct.
- Proven ability to enforce all rules in all sport-related activities and venues.
- Assists athletes and/or their parents in the selection of college or workforce opportunities.
- Must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects and procedures pertinent to lacrosse including rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
- Proven ability to work in a professional and friendly manner with various contingencies; i.e. students, teachers, parents, administrators, boosters, media, officials and the school community and public.
- Reports to the Athletic Director and Haverhill High School Principal any disciplinary issues immediately.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Athletic Director, Principal and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee.
Qualifications:
- Proven ability to advocate the importance of education and school community.
- Successful previous experience as a lacrosse player or coach
- Lacrosse coaching experience - preferred
- Valid Driver’s License - required
- First Aid/CPR - required
- MIAA Coaches Certification - preferred
